James is an experienced genetic engineer, who has helped catalyse the emergence of Synthetic Biology on the international stage. Prior to founding Bondi, James was the architect of a new wet lab facility at world-leading technical-consultancy Cambridge Consultants. There he took the technical lead on a range of projects including HT characterisation platforms, cell-free sensing & DNA data-storage, culminating in the successful authorship of Wikipedia in DNA.<\/p>\n
James worked in Microsoft Research\u2019s Biological Computation Group & spent time in Saudi Arabia, working to generate sustainable biomanufacturing solutions for global chemical producer SABIC. James served as National Programme Director for UK Synthetic Biology & was Secretariat to the UK\u2019s Synthetic Biology Leadership Council, where he supported the implementation of the UK\u2019s Strategic Roadmap in Synthetic Biology. He was an iGEM Ambassador during the formative years of the competition, and was Principal Advisor to the University of Cambridge iGEM teams from 2007 through 2010, including the award-winning E. chromi team in 2009.<\/p>\n

Proteomics is the study of proteins using mass spectrometry. Michelle is working to identify novel proteins and characterise their function and post-translational modifications. Michelle is a Chief Investigator on the ARC Centre of Excellence for Innovations in Peptide and Protein Science.<\/p>\n
Prior to joining CSIRO, Michelle built a strong, international reputation for her studies in the structure and function of bioactive peptides, namely the cyclotides. Her research, often applying innovative approaches, has been widely published in high impact journals (ACS Chemical Biology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Biophysical Journal). Her findings have gone beyond reporting molecular structures to uncovering the evolution and development of these peptides (PNAS, Nature Chemical Biology, Plant Cell). Robert has been called upon on numerous occasions by both the private sector and the Government to act as a Subject Matter Expert for a number of Department of Defence projects with a geospatial\/imagery requirement. Robert was also invited by the Australian Academy of Technological Science and Engineering and the Indian National Academy of Engineering to present at an Indo-Australian Workshop on Remote Sensing in Bangalore. Robert\u2019s strong technical expertise in imagery and geospatial technologies ensures the delivery of technical solutions which not only meet current requirements but will also satisfy broader business needs. Professor Durrant-Whyte is a board member and non-Executive Director of the Defence Cooperative Research Centre for Trusted Autonomous Systems (TAS-DCRC), and a contracted Special Advisor on data and artificial intelligence to Arowana International Limited, a venture company investing in training, traffic management and green energy companies.<\/p>\n
He was a Professor and an ARC Federation Fellow at the University of Sydney from 2002-2010 and from 2014-2016, the Director of the Australian Research Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems and of the Australian Centre for Field Robotics from 1995-2010, and was the CEO of National ICT Australia (NICTA) from 2010-2014. Claudia’s early research interests spanned crop plant engineering, plant physiology, abiotic stress and the metabolic regulation of volatile isoprenoids. Over the last decade, she has focused on metabolic regulation of isoprenoid natural products in plants and microbes, and on developing synthetic biology tools for rational re-engineering of microbial metabolism for production of isoprenoids. Isoprenoids (terpenes) are a large group of natural products with many biological functions and diverse industrial applications. Since 2017 Claudia has led the CSIRO SynBioFSP, a highly collaborative $60 million R&D program aimed at expanding Australia\u2019s synthetic biology capability and ultimately developing a synthetic biology-based industry in the nation. She was founding President of Synthetic Biology Australia and served on the expert working groups for Australia\u2019s national synthetic biology roadmap (delivered by the Australian Council of Learned Academies) and the Australian government NCRIS Synthetic Biology Infrastructure Investment Plan, and is a Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Fellow. She serves on editorial boards for eight international journals, including as a handing editor for ACS Synthetic Biology and ASM mSystems. She has Adjunct Professor roles at Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University.<\/p>\n
Claudia has worked with industry partners in a range of application areas to deliver industry-focused outcomes and provide consulting expertise. He founded GlyTherix to bring to market an innovative antibody for treatment of solid tumours from cancers such as prostate, bladder, pancreas and esophageal.<\/p>\n
Dr Walsh has led the company\u2019s scientific and business development, raising capital to bring the company to successful completion of a First-in-Human safety study of Miltuximab\u00ae, its lead compound. The company is currently planning a Phase1 trial to be conducted in Australia.<\/p>\n
Dr Walsh\u2019s career in biotechnology began with a PhD in protein chemistry. Over the following years he led research groups in government agencies, universities and hospitals and was a key part of the establishment of a major national research facility, APAF, before forming Minomic in 2007.<\/p>\n
He continues to be active in research collaborations and academic supervision and was a joint recipient of one of Australia\u2019s most prestigious science awards, a Eureka Prize, for Interdisciplinary Research in 2015. More recently Dr Walsh won first prize against a field of international competitors at the 2018 Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas High-Level Talents in Hangzhou, China. <\/p>\n
